Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah was elected the best player of the year by the FWA (FWA) association. This is the third time Salah has received the prize, becoming the second player to reach this feat, behind only Thierry Henry, former Assenal.
With 28 goals this season, Salah leads the championship artillery and was a key player in winning Liverpool’s second English title since his arrival at the club in 2017.
The Egyptian received 90% of the votes of more than 900 members of the Association – the largest margin of victory recorded in this century.
The defender, Salah’s companion, was second in the vote, followed by Alexander Isak of Newcastle United, and Declan Rice of Arsenal.
Women’s football
In women’s football, Alessia Russian was elected the best player of the year. The athlete stood out with eight goals at the Champions League, leading Arsenal to the final of the competition. The striker surpassed Jamaican Khadija Shaw, from last year’s award winner.
Mariona Caldo, also from Arsenal, was third, while Chelsea captain Millie Bright finished fourth.
Salah and Russian will receive the awards in an official ceremony scheduled for May 22, in London.
