United States President Donald Trump asked on Thursday (8) a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, warning that Washington and his partners will impose new sanctions if the ceasefire is not respected.
Ukraine has been willing to accept a US proposal to decree an immediate 30-day ceasefire, while Russia proposed only a three-day ceasefire to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II on Thursday.
Trump said in a social media publication: “If the ceasefire (30 days) is not respected, the US and its partners will impose more sanctions.”
“We hope that an acceptable ceasefire will be observed and that both countries will be held responsible for respecting the holiness of these direct negotiations,” said Trump.
“This ceasefire should ultimately be built toward a peace agreement. All this can be done very quickly, and I will be available at any time if my services are necessary.”
Trump said he wants to end the war in Ukraine, but his government also threatened to abandon attempts to intermediate an agreement if Russia and Ukraine do not advance.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday he reported Trump on a telephone call that Kiev is ready for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia “from this minute.”
The Ukrainian President said Russia must demonstrate his willingness to end the war, starting with an unconditional ceasefire.
The Ukraine Foreign Minister said on Thursday that Russia had repeatedly violated her own ceasefire three days after the beginning and called the “farce” initiative, while Moscow said Kiev had continued to fight.

Russia launched a large -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. She attached Crimea in 2014.
