Two suspects of spying for Hungarian intelligence were detained by the Ukrainian SBU, and they were supposed to detect information about defense and local moods.

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) announced the detention of two Hungarian secret services on Friday. It suspects them from the collection of intelligence information in the Transcarpathian region adjacent to Hungary, among other things, the location of air defense systems, TASR reports according to the AFP report.

“For the first time in the history of Ukraine, the SBU revealed a network of Hungarian military intelligence agents, which has been spying on the detriment of our country,” the statement said.

According to the SBU, this network was supposed to determine the views of local residents of the Transcarpathian region, in addition to the collection of information, especially the scenarios of their behavior in the event of Hungarian troops entering the region.

Both suspects were said to have been under the supervision of a Hungarian military intelligence officer whose SBU has already identified. One of the detained alleged agents is a 40-year-old former soldier from the Ukrainian city of Berehovo, whose Hungarian side was said to recruited in 2021. It was activated according to SBU in September 2024.

The second detainee is a former member of the Ukrainian armed churches, who went to retired in 2025, says SBU.
