Coach Xabi Alonso announced on Friday (09/05) that he will leave the command of Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the 2024/25 season. The coach was responsible for the most victorious period in the history of the German club.

Xabi, 43, arrived at Bayer in 2022 after a period as a coach in Real Madrid’s grassroots and a season as a coach of Real Sociedad team B.

In total, the coach trained Leverkusen for 138 games, with 89 wins, 31 draws and 18 losses, totaling 311 pro goals and 149 goals against, as well as winning three titles: Bundesliga and Germany Cup in 2023/24 and the 2024 Germany Super Cup.

In addition to the numbers and achievements, the coach also drew attention for the fantastic season 2023/24, where Bayer Leverkusen lost only one of the 53 games he played in the season.

The defeat came in an indoor moment: the team lost the Europa League decision to Atalanta. The setback, however, did not erase the magical year of the German team, which made him elected the coach of the year of Bundesliga and the best coach in the world at Globo Soccer Awards.

The Spanish newspaper marks and journalist Fabrizio Romano, however, said the coach is Hit to be the new Real Madrid commander after the departure of Italian Carlo Ancelotti.

It is noteworthy that Xabi Alonso’s career as a coach began in Real Madrid’s base categories, where he left to train Real Sociedad team B, when he caught the attention of Bayer Leverkusen.

Xabi acted at Real Madrid between 2009 and 2014, winning four titles for the club, including the 2013/14 Champions League. Recently, the former player stated that “affection remains and the loop with Real Madrid fans is very strong” when asked about his period as an athlete in the merengue team.

Despite the hit with the Madrid, the coach is not yet to command Real Madrid at the Club World Cup, between June and July, a mission that should be with Santiago Solari, the club’s soccer director. Alonso is expected to take on at the beginning of the new season in July after the club tournament.
