Authorities and witnesses report ceasefire violations in India

Hours after President Donald Trump announced that he was mediated, violations were reported in the main cities of the Indian portion of the Caxemira territory, center of fighting in recent days.

Reports of authorities, residents and witnesses report explosions heard in Srinagar and Jammu, and projectiles and lights similar to those observed on previous nights were seen in the sky of the city of Jammu.

Military spokesmen of the two nuclear powers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Authorities and witnesses report ceasefire violations in India

Caxemira is at the center of the historical conflict between India and Pakistan. O, giving rise to India, mostly Hindu, and Pakistan, mostly Muslim.

Following a counterattack operation that exceeded Pakistani lines until then not accessed, the conflict expanded from this week.

Last Wednesday, civilian deaths were reported amid gunfire at the border. Governments from both countries accuse each other of air and land attacks on the border. On Friday, the Indian army stated that Pakistan would have attacked its western border, a version denied by the Pakistani.

In response, India attacked air defense systems and radars from the neighboring country, which dealt with the raid as illegal. Pakistan claims to have knocked over more than twenty drones that invaded their airspace.

Ceasefire

On Saturday morning, the countries had accepted the terms of a US ceasefire mediated at dawn (Brasília time).

United States President Donald Trump said on Saturday morning that India and Pakistan accepted a “complete and immediate” ceasefire. Representatives of the countries, whose conflicts got worse this week, confirmed the announcement of the president.

“After a long night of US-mediated conversations, I’m glad to announce that India and Pakistan agreed for a complete and immediate ceasefire,” Trump said in a publication on his social network, Truth Social, around 9am Brasilia time.

A few minutes after the publication of the US President, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq, confirmed the information. “Pakistan has always fought for peace and security in the region, without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said in an X (former Twitter) publication.

India’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Vikram Misri, said that both his country and Pakistan will “immediately stop all the shootings and military actions on land, air and sea” from 5 pm local time – 8:30 am in Brasilia. According to Misri, leaders from both countries will resume conversations on Monday (12).
