Women still have to decide in 2025: child or career? Both can be reconciled in theory. But in practice, the much -vaunted “free decision” often remains an illusion. This is not due to the lack of women of women, but because of the structures. Too little childcare and the gender play gap make equal parenting almost impossible. The result is the high price of motherhood: financial dependence, poverty in old age, hardly any chances of promotion. Austria must no longer miss the chance to actively shape family policy as an equality policy. A change of perspective is needed, but above all men who take responsibility.
