Fixed world champion with the Brazilian team, Mauro Silva has been vice president of the Paulista Football Federation (FPF) since 2015. As a leader, he sees education as a factor of transformation in football, even to prevent athletes from having financial problems after retirement.
“I think Brazil is missing in Brazil, in the grassroots categories. I think the player is more advised, because if he separates a part, like me (…) investing (…), he will never have financial difficulty in life. But they have changed the proportion, they earn much more, but also spend much more,” said Mauro Silva In an interview with the Game Changers program.
Mauro Silva sees the lack of good financial advice for athletes as a problem not only in football, but in other sports, such as basketball – even alloys known as management models such as NBA, the US Basketball League.
“If you get the statistics of NBA players, for example, many who make a lot of money also end up having financial problems in the future. Because the player has a tendency to invest in a lot of passive, right? Buy five houses, ten boats, helicopter, plane, everything that takes money out of your pocket,” explained the four -time world champion. “I see that the player buys very passive and little active. And the passive, over time, consumes his assets.”
