The action concerned several services where the company allegedly monitored the movement without permission and processed the private data of users.

Google will pay $ 1.4 billion (€ 1.2 billion) to US state Texas for an out -of -court settlement of unauthorized users’ data collection, Ken Paxton, General Prosecutor General, announced Friday. TASR received the report from AP.

Paxton sued Google in 2022, saying that the technology giant collecting millions of biometric identifiers – including voice samples and facial geometry data – through its services like Google Photos, Google Assistant and Nest Hub Max.

Corporations are not afraid

“In Texas, technological corporations are not standing above the law,” Paxton said. “For years, Google has been secretly watching people’s movement, their private search, even voice and facial biometric data. I stood up and won.” Google has not yet responded at request for a statement.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, this is the greatest financial settlement ever any US state has received in a dispute with Google for breaking the privacy of data of this type. This report comes less than a year after Meta agreed to pay the same compensation – $ 1.4 billion – Texas in the event of a violation of users’ privacy due to the collection of biometric data without their consent.
