Drone attacks this Friday (9.MAI) raise tension in the region; The Indian Ministry of Defense says the country is on “maximum alert”

Explosions were recorded on the night of this Friday (9.MAI.2025) in the Caixemira region, territory disputed by India and Pakistan. According to the Indian army, drones considered hostile were slaughtered during the intensification of confrontations at the border.

In a statement published in the X (former Twitter), the Ministry of Defense of the Government of Prime Minister Narendra Moda said the country remains on the top alert. The government of Pakistan has not yet commented on the new attacks, but had already denied involvement in previous actions.

“All air threats are being monitored and neutralized with anti -Dydrone systems. The situation is closely monitored and fast actions are being taken whenever necessary.”said the Indian organ.

The country’s armed forces also detected drones in 26 locations near the border and control line (LOC), including Baramulla, Srinar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Bermer, BHUJ, Karbet and Lakhi Nala.

According to the army, one of the armed drones, hit a civil area in ferozpur, hurting a family. The victims were rescued and the region, isolated for security inspection.

The population, especially in border areas, was oriented to stay at home, avoid traveling and follow the instructions of the authorities. The Indian government said there is no reason for panic, but recommends redoubled surveillance.

Understand

The clashes intensified after India bombard targets in Pakistan on Wednesday (7.MAI), under the justification of attacking “Terrorist Infrastructures”.

Nova Delhi justified the action in response to a shot at gunfire against tourists in India administered in April, which resulted in the deaths of more than 20 people.

The current climbing of tension began on April 22, when one left 26 dead. The Indian government attributes the action to groups supported by Pakistan.

In reaction, India bombed targets in Pakistani territory and in areas of cashmire under Islamabad control. Hours later, Pakistan retaliated with attacks on Indian positions along the control line.

The increase in tensions concerns the international community because of the nuclear arsenal of the 2 countries, which total more than 340 warheads, according to the SIPRI (International Institute for Research for Peace of Stockholm in Portuguese).

Cashmire

The conflict between India and Pakistan through the Caixemira region dates back to the sharing of the Indian subcontinent in 1947, when the then British colony was divided between the 2 countries.

Most Muslim cashmire became part of India after its Hindu ruler chooses to join the country, which was contested by Pakistan.

Since then, the 2 countries have waged wars and numerous armed clashes by the region, which remains divided between them, but is fully claimed with each side.

The dispute is marked by military tensions, separatist insurgency on the Indian side and constant mutual accusations of human rights violations and support for terrorism.
