Surprise advertisement of the ceasefire occurred after India and Pakistan continued to mutually accuse themselves of attacks on Saturday night
India and Pakistan agreed with a “total and immediate ceasefire” after a night of US-mediated conversations, President Donald Trump wrote on his social truth platform.
“After a long night of US-mediated conversations, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan agreed with a total and immediate ceasefire,” the US President wrote.
“Congratulations to both countries for using common sense and great intelligence.”
Shortly thereafter, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq said Pakistan and India agreed with a ceasefire “with immediate effect,” confirming the US president’s announcement.
“Pakistan has always struggled for peace and security in the region, without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added, in a post at X.
India also stated that there was a “understanding” between Nova Delhi and Islamabad, according to sources on the Indian side.
“The cessation of shots and military actions between India and Pakistan was agreed directly between the two countries,” a source told CNN.
The Director General of Pakistan Military Operations (DGMO) began a call on Saturday afternoon, local time, “after which discussions were made and an understanding came.”
“There is no decision to maintain conversations about any other question anywhere else,” the source added.
