The President (PT) landed this Saturday (10) in Beijing, at, to begin a state visit that reinforces the strategic partnership between the two countries and expands Brazil’s dialogue with Latin America and the Caribbean within the China-Celac Forum. The trip is part of an international agenda that also included passage through Moscow, where Lula participated in the 80th anniversary celebrations of the end of World War II and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In the Chinese capital, Lula will have bilateral meetings with President XI Jinping and other local authorities. At least 16 agreements are expected to be signed in areas such as agriculture, trade, investments, infrastructure, industry, energy, mining, science and technology, communication, health, education and culture. Another 32 agreements are in negotiation, according to Itamaraty.
Since 2009, China is the main commercial partner in Brazil. In the first three months of 2025 alone, bilateral trade reached about $ 38.8 billion. Brazil exports mainly gross oil, soy and iron ore, while importing vessels, telecommunications equipment and electric machinery.
In addition to economic negotiations, Lula also participates in the fourth meeting of the China-Celac Forum (Latin American and Caribbean Community), a mechanism that seeks to bring China closer to countries in the region and strengthen cooperation in areas such as digital economy, connectivity, disaster risk management, health, food safety and energy transition.
In a recent interview with the magazine The New YorkerLula reinforced China’s role in the global scenario and criticized the western view of rivalry with the Asian country. “We do not accept the idea of a new cold war. We accept the idea that the more similar countries are – technological and militarily – the more they will need to dialogue with each other,” he said.
The visit to Beijing ends an intense week of international articulation of the president, who sought to reinforce the role of Brazil as a relevant actor in multilateral dialogue, defender of peace and global cooperation.
