The plot is set in the 1970s. In the plot, Marcelo, a technology expert, and decides to return to Recife in search of a little peace, but realizes that the city is far from being the refuge it seeks.
This is the third movie by Kleber Mendonça Filho to compete by the Golden Palm. Previously, the Pernambuco filmmaker had “Aquarius” and “Bacurau” in the official national team, as well as “Chamebre 999” and “Ghost Portraits” in special exhibitions of the festival.
“The Secret Agent” marks the Wagner Moura’s return to Brazilian cinema. In recent years, he has been in international productions such as “Sergio” (2020), (2024) and (2025).
