United States President Donald Trump fired Congress Librarian Carla Hayden in part because of her commitment to diversity, the White House said on Friday (9).
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Trump government believes Hayden was not serving on the interests of US taxpayers, citing their advance in diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
“There were quite worrying things she had done at the Congress library in search of Dei and placing inappropriate books for children in the library,” Leavitt told reporters at a press conference on Friday.
“She was removed from her position, and the president has every right to do that,” he added.
Hayden, who was the first woman and the first Afro-North American to hold office, headed an office that has a general responsibility for the library administration and defines the policy of her programs and activities.
Democratic President Barack Obama appointed her in 2016 for a 10 -year term in office, which had to be confirmed by the Senate.

Congress’s main democrats criticized the measure as the latest Trump’s politically motivated purge.
“Donald Trump’s decision to fire Dr. Carla Hayden is the latest foray into her relentless campaign to dismantle the protection bars of our democracy and punish public servants who do not bow to all their wishes,” wrote Chuck Schumer, the main Democrat in the Senate.
