The Minister of (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes granted this Saturday (10) house arrest, in a humanitarian basis, to the former federal deputy. He should be in the city of Comendador Levy Gasparian (RJ), where he has residence.
Jefferson was, but was hospitalized since August 2023 in a private hospital in Rio de Janeiro due to health problems. On Friday (9), the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic) spoke favorably to house arrest.
In Saturday’s decision, Moraes ordered the use of an electronic anklet and the seizure of the passport. The former parliamentarian is prohibited from leaving the country, using social networks, giving interviews to any media vehicle and receiving visits as well as lawyers, family members and people previously authorized by the STF.
Jefferson had been hospitalized for almost two years at the Samaritan Hospital Botafogo in Rio. PGR told the Supreme one that the unit sent different medical reports – last month – that “draw severe clinical condition and justify the flexibility of the custody regime.”
The hospital document indicates “clinical picture of seizures; elevation of miocardia necrosis markers; recurrent urinary tract infections, high-risk caloric-protein malnutrition associated with latexia and late postoperative bariatric surgery; episodes of collangitis; possible focus of infection in oral cavity; and severe depressive syndrome”.
Previous medical reports also point to history of testis, pancreas, thyroid, colon, and depressive disorder cancer history, among other health problems.
PGR states that it is necessary to “recognize the unfeasibility of performing treatment within the prison system” and points out that the last medical opinion pointed out that Jefferson is able to continue with treatment at home.
The former deputy was, but received the right to house arrest in January of the following year for health reasons. In October 2022, he returned to the regime closed for reiterating the rules of house arrest.
At the time, he used his daughter’s twitter account, Cristiane Brasil, to curse the Minister of Cármen Lúcia. The magistrate was called “Blair Witch”, “Carmen Lucifer”, prostitute and broken into.
The next day, the former PTB leader resisted prison trying to comply with the decision. He was taken to the Benfica prison in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
Jefferson was from last year to nine years in prison for attack on the exercise of powers, homophobia, slander and incitement to the crime.
