Hamas said on Sunday that Edan Alexander, the last American hostage in Gaza, will be released as part of the efforts to establish a ceasefire, reopen the crossings to the territory and resume the delivery of help. The statement does not say when liberation will happen.
The announcement was made shortly before US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East this week. Trump does not plan to visit Israel.

Alexander is an Israeli American soldier who grew up in the United States. He was kidnapped from his base during the attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which began the war in Gaza.
