Nissan Motor will fire more than 10,000 people worldwide, raising the number of mass cuts to about 20,000 or 15% of its workforce, said Japanese public broadcaster NHK on Monday (12).
Nissan did not comment on the subject when sought by Reuters.
The company should announce on Tuesday results of the commercial year that ended in March. Last month, the company warned that it would probably record a record net loss of 700 billion to 750 billion yen ($ 4.74 billion to $ 5.08 billion) due to charges.
Nissan’s executive president Ivan Espinosa, who took over in place of Makoto Uchida as last month, is restructuring Nissan’s operations and said earlier that the company was considering additional measures.
Nissan, which had over 133,000 employees in March last year, announced plans last November to cut 9,000 jobs and reduce global capacity by 20%.
The company also said it would close a factory in Thailand until June and close two more factories that were not identified.

On Friday, the company said it had decided to give up a plan to build a $ 1.1 billion factory, for which it would receive government subsidies for electric vehicle batteries on the southwest Kyushu island.
