Two children, 7 and 9 years old, were caught handling a firearm loaded in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA), on February 16. The scene was registered by a police drone and released only last Friday (10) by Bernalillo County Sheriff.
In the images, the two brothers appear wearing pajamas and passing the gun to each other, discussing who would stay with her, as if it were a toy. At one point, one of the boys even pulls the trigger, but the weapon fails. The attempt occurred after the police soaked a less lethal ammunition to distract them. “If it had fired, our agents would have been forced to use lethal strength. That would have shocked the country,” the sheriff John Allen told Albuquerque Journal.

According to the authorities, the video was released to show the joint work between drone technology and the behavioral health unit, which accompanied the action in real time. The use of technology has helped to avoid direct confrontation with children, reducing the risk of tragedy.
Family history also caught the attention: the police have been triggered more than 50 times to the boys’ house for previous occurrences involving their parents. The weapon was seized, but the children were not formally accused and remain under guard of those responsible.
Sheriff John Allen emphasized that the focus of the authorities is to offer support and not punishment. “These boys were taught to use a weapon. We need to invest in rehab because they are just developing children,” he said.
Michael Lucero, clinical director of the Behavioral Health Unit, said the family faces a long history of trauma and is already receiving psychological and psychiatric follow -up.
