Modi promised, on May 12, to respond vehemently to any future “terrorist attack,” after a weekend ceasefire with Pakistan, after days of military conflict among neighbors with nuclear weapons

The Prime Minister of, the Ultranationalist, promised a “firm response” if another “terrorist attack” takes place against his country after the military confrontation with Pakistan last week. “If there is another terrorist attack on India, we will launch a firm answer,” Modi said in his first televised speech since the beginning of hostilities with his neighbor. “Our operations are suspended,” said Modi of the Hindu nationalist party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Indian Prime Minister also accused that he “attacked” his country instead of “supporting him to fight terror.”

“India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail,” he added, referring to the atomic weapons possessed by Pakistan and his country. A ceasefire has been in force between the two countries since Saturday, after four days of attacks and counterattacks on both sides, who killed at least 60 people and made thousands run away. It was the worst outbreak of violence since the last open conflict between India and Pakistan in 1999. The climb between the two nuclear powers raised fears of an open war.
