Bars, also known as sweet potatoes, are not only delicious but also very nutritious root vegetables. They are a great source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that provide a variety of health benefits.
Bars and their health benefits
- Vitamin A: Especially orange Swaps are rich in beta -carotene, which is converted to vitamin a in the body. This vitamin is important for good vision, strengthening the immune system and skin health.
- Rich Antioxidants: Purple Bars contain anthocyanins, potent antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation and protect cells from damage.
- A good source of fiber: The fibers in the shoes improve digestion, help regulate blood sugar and provide a feeling of satiety, which can be useful to control weight.
- Supports heart health: Baths contain potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure. Antioxidants can also reduce oxidative stress in blood vessels.
- Low Glycemic Index: Bars have a lower glycemic index compared to conventional potatoes, causing slower blood sugar.
Peculiarities of potato planting
Although the potatoes come from a warmer climate, they can be successfully cultivated in Lithuania, following certain rules:
- Germination: In Lithuania, due to the short warm season, it is recommended to germinate in the room. In January-February, the tubers should be immersed in water or placed in a damp substrate in a warm place until the sprouts begin to be allowed.
- Preparation of seedlings: When the seedlings grow up to 15-20 cm, they are carefully separated from the mother tuber and in the water or substrate.
- Selection of the location: Samples need sunny, wind protected areas with fluffy, fertile, acidic soil.
- Planting in the soil: after spring frost (usually in May), prepared seedlings are planted in higher beds 40-50 cm apart. There should be about 1 meter distance between beds as the potatoes tend to expand.
- Care:
- Watering: Baths should be watered regularly, especially in dry air, but avoid removal. Two weeks before harvest, watering should be discontinued.
- : Organic fertilizers can be fertilized at the beginning of vegetation and then potassium and phosphorus fertilizers for root vegetables.
- loosening and weeding: It is necessary to roll the soil regularly and remove the weeds.
- Mulch (optional): Mulch with black film to warm the soil and retain moisture.
- Harvesting: Samples are usually dug in September before frost begins. The tubers should be careful as they are quite fragile.
- Stoting: The harvested harvest is dried in a well-ventilated room and stored in a cool (about 10-13 ° C) in a dry place.
Under proper care, you can grow delicious and healthy bars even in Lithuanian climatic conditions.
