This week it can be key in the future of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The succession of information that has been published in recent days regarding hypothetical truces, ‘relapses’ and unjustified attacks of which they accuse each other, could soon come. Or at least, the greatest approach to a real and minimally lasting truce could occur since Russia carried out the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
According to the latest information from kyiv, the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenski, would be willing to meet with his Russian counterpart in Turkey, in what would be the first encounter between them after more than three years of bloody war and hundreds of thousands of dead and displaced.
In this sense, Zelenski said he will wait for Putin on Thursday in Türkiye to start negotiations on a fire. With a publication on his profile of the social network X, the Ukrainian prime minister said he expected “a high full and durable fire, starting tomorrow, to lay the necessary bases for diplomacy.”
In addition, he said that “it makes no sense to prolong the killings”, and surprised everyone by stating that he will wait for “Putin in Turkey on Thursday”, and wished “this time the Russians do not look for excuses”, as happened days ago.
This message occurred after Putin rejected the proposal of Alto El Fuego. Same positioning he adopted during the morning of this Monday, when the spokesman for the presidency, Dimitry Peskov, has accused Ukraine of speaking in terms incompatible with the 30 -day truce sued by kyiv:
However, everything could change this Thursday, May 15 with the meeting between both presidents in Istanbul at the request of the Turkish leader. This citation was considered a “positive sign” by Zelenski, who said that “the entire world has been waiting for it for a long time.”
The problem for Ukraine is that Putin’s word can be worth little. There is nothing more to remember what happened last week, when Putin proposed a stop the fire on the occasion of the commemoration in Russia of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, and yet, Ukraine attacked with 108 drones of attacks and in six different directions on Sunday.
Of all of them, 60 were shot down and 41 failed to achieve their objectives. And not happy, it was the Kremlin accused kyiv of having “raped” the high fire between May 8 and 10 more than 14,000 times.
