It is an inevitable thought in recent years. What would happen if World War III broke out? The hypotheses, speculations and theories are countless, as are the scenarios, which seem unpredictable. However, certain conclusions can always be reached that fit the closest to a general consensus among the main experts and scholars on the subject.
Recently, one of these specialists in nuclear wars has revealed some of the keys that could decant a hypothetical nuclear conflict, as well as establish an order with respect to which countries would have some advantage in the battlefield. Thus, he explained what would be the safest places on the planet to hide in case there was a nuclear world war.
In the first place, and perhaps the most alarming data has to do with the number of deaths to which an attack of these dimensions would rise, since it estimates that it could end the life of 60% of the world’s population in just 72 minutes.
But if we go in regard to the safer areas in the world, the experienced professor Brian Toon, supports the research journalist, Annie Jacobsen, that the areas that would manage to dodge the most devastating effects of a nuclear war would be Australia and New Zealand.
Obviously it can be believed that this is due to its distant latitude with respect to the rest of the world, and it is true. But the fundamental reason is the fact that they could “maintain agriculture”, since wide areas of the planet, mainly “in the average latitudes, would be covered with layers of ice”, and highlights areas such as Iowa or Ukraine, which “would be only snow for ten years”, so “agriculture would fail, and when agriculture fails, people simply die,” he says. “
On the other hand, radiation poisoning would influence, which would leave the ozone layer tremendously damaged and destroyed, to the point that “you cannot be outdoors under sunlight”, so it predicts that everyone “would be forced to live underground, fighting for food in all parts, except for New Zealand and Australia.”
