Non -detonated bomb of World War II is found at the University of Hiroshima

An object that is believed to be a non-detonated bomb of World War II was discovered on Tuesday (13) at the Kasumi campus of the University of Hiroshima in western Japan.

According to local police information to the agency Kyodo Newsthe object about 90 centimeters long and 25 cm in diameter was found around 10:20 am in a University construction site in Minami district.

Access to the site was restricted and all afternoon classes canceled, while security forces worked to discard the object.

According to an official note signed by Mitsuo Ochi, president of the University of Hiroshima, the incident “serves as a striking reminder that we continue to carry the scars of the war that Hiroshima has experienced.”

He also stated that the case also strengthened the mission of facing this reality and “recording even more deeply in our hearts the precious peace and use it for the future.”

“As a university located in Hiroshima, the place of atomic bombing, the University of Hiroshima will remain a symbol of peace and a source of hope for the future. No matter the challenges or scars of the past, we will continue to proudly this story and continue to defend the value of peace to the world.”

Next August 6, 80 years will complete the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, in an attack from the United States that would be repeated three days later in Nagasaki. After the devastation, Japan surrendered to the allies, ending the war.
