The Maré Complex, in the North Zone of Rio, dawned on Monday (13) under strong tension climate. An operation of the Special Police Operations Battalion (Bope), known as “Th da Maré”, appointed as one of the most sought after criminals in the state.

Traffic Impact
The movement on the main roads near the complex was affected. The yellow line had to be banned seven times since the beginning of the operation, and the accesses between Avenida Brasil and the Red Line were also affected by the blockages. Drivers reported hearing shots while driving down the roads.
Education and health paralyzed
The Municipal Secretariat of Education (SME) reported that 43 school units were impacted in the region, due to the commitment of access of students and professionals. The State Department of Education also confirmed the closing of two schools in the state network.
In the health area, the Municipal Secretariat (SMS) informed the suspension of activities in four units – between family clinics and municipal health centers – for safety reasons. Already the equipment of the state health network, according to the folder, continue to function normally.
Diverted public transportation
The operation also dramatically affected public transportation. According to Rio Bus note, 70 lines circulating along Avenida Brasil and the Yellow Line had to modify their itineraries to avoid conflict points. The situation in the Maré complex remains unstable, with residents reporting fear and mobility difficulties. The PM has not yet disclosed the partial balance of the operation.
