Taking good care of the car is something every driver says, but are you really adopting best practices?

Many common everyday attitudes, which seem harmless or even correct, may actually be accelerating your vehicle wear and even compromising your safety.

If you want to save on maintenance and extend your life, this text is for you.

6 habits that many find correct, but may be destroying their car

1. Use the clutch to hold the car on climbs

A lot of people do this without thinking: the car to a slope and, instead of using the hand brake, the driver holds the vehicle only with the clutch. This is a serious mistake.

This practice causes unnecessary wear on the clutch disc. Over time, this can generate clearances, trepidations and even the need for early exchange of the piece.

Whenever you stop on a slope, use the hand brake.

2. Complete the radiator with tap water

This is a common but extremely harmful habit. Tap water contains minerals and impurities that can erode the internal parts of the car’s cooling system.

The correct thing is to use radiator specific additive, mixed with demineralized water.

This mixture protects the engine from overheating and still prevents rust and deposits that can clog the system.

Be aware of this simple but fundamental detail for the health of your car.

3. Run with poorly calibrated tires

Drive with withering tires or with pressure above the recommended directly affects car performance and safety.

Untilled tires increase fuel consumption, wear faster and impair stability.

The ideal is to check the calibration at least once a week or before taking the road.

Always use the pressure indicated in the car manual or the label on the driver’s door.

4. Accelerate strong soon after starting the engine

A lot of people think that “waking up” the car with a strong accelerated is good. But this is a mistake.

When the engine is cold, the oil has not yet completely circulated through all the parts. Accelerate at this moment generates friction and unnecessary wear.

So turn on the car, wait a few seconds and start driving softly. This helps to preserve the engine and reduces the risk of future problems.

5. Go down in “Banguela” (dead point)

Many drivers believe they descend slopes at a dead point saves fuel. But this practice, besides being dangerous, is not good for the car.

In modern vehicles, the injection system automatically cuts the fuel when descended with the gear and the foot off the accelerator.

That is, keeping the car geared into descents is safer and more efficient. It still avoids brake overload.

6. Ignoring the engine softening period

New cars also need special care in the first thousand kilometers. The so -called “engine softening” is essential for good long -term functioning.

During this period, it is important to avoid sudden accelerations, high speeds and maintain moderate engine turnover.

These precautions help the car to adapt better to use and avoid premature wear.
