Germany is planted with Putin: It will impose sanctions if there are no advances in the high fire

The German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, reiterated on Tuesday that if this week there are no advances for a high durable fire in Ukraine, new European sanctions against Russia will be imposed and it was sure that it will be possible to have the support of all member states for it, including Hungary.

“Now the ball is on Russia’s roof,” he said at a press conference in Berlin with Greek prime minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis.

Merz celebrated that the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, has declared himself willing to travel Thursday to Turkey to meet personally with the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, despite the fact that Moscow’s forces continue to bombard civil objectives in Ukraine.

Zelenski is willing to “do everything possible” to take this opportunity to establish a high fire and peace conversations, said the chancellor, who stressed that neither the Ukrainian president nor the country of Ukraine itself can be demanded by greater capacity for commitment.

Merz recalled that the 17th package of European sanctions has already been formulated and is pending to be approved in June, while Germany and other countries will advocate additional punishment measures to Moscow if there are no progress this week.

“We will convince countries that doubt that it is correct. This war must end,” he said, when asked about the need for Hungary to give his approval.
