The sale of energy drinks to persons under the age of 16 could be limited in Slovakia. This stems from the draft law on the conditions of sale of energy drinks from the workshop of the coalition deputy Ján Ferenčák (Voice-SD), which he submitted to the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic.

“The main aim of the proposal is to create a legal framework to regulate the sale of energy drinks by banning the sale of energy drinks to persons under 16 years of age, By ensuring the unavailability of energy drinks for juveniles through vending machines or remote sales, as well as increasing public awareness of the negative effects of excessive consumption of such drinks, ”said the petitioner in the explanatory memorandum. According to him, the law should also ensure effective control and sanctions for breach of sales rules.

According to a deputy, the bill is based on several health, social and economic reasons that point to the need to take this measure. “The consumption of energy drinks is also associated with health risks for adults, but children and adolescents are particularly sensitive to the effects of these substances because their organism is still developing,” The deputy of the National Council of the Slovak Republic added in the explanatory memorandum.
