Declaration of the president comes after the request of the Ukrainian chancellor, Andrii Yermak, so that Brazil uses ‘its authorized voice in the dialogue with Russia’ to make the meeting between heads of state conflict viable.
The president said on Wednesday (14) that will try to convince the homologist of Russia, traveling travel to Türkiye to negotiate with the Ukrainian The end of the war. “When stopping in Moscow, I will try to talk to Putin. Lula, who returns on Wednesday to Brasilia, made the statement after Ukraine Chancellor Andrii Yermak requested on Tuesday in a message on social network X to use “his authorized voice in dialogue with Russia” to make the meeting between Putin and Zelensky viable. Yermak’s request took place during a telephone conversation with the Brazilian chancellor, Mauro Vieira.
Before traveling to China, Lula watched in Moscow the ceremony of celebration of the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II. The Brazilian president expressed optimism after learning of Putin’s proposal and Zelensky’s acceptance to start talks in Istanbul.

Brazil and China released on Tuesday a joint statement in which they express hope that “, in the shortest possible time, a direct dialogue between the parties, the only way to end the conflict.” The Brazilian president recalled that Brazil and China created, in September 2024, “a group of friends” to help the parties when they agreed to discuss peace.
Negotiations are scheduled for Thursday (15) in Istanbul, in what would be the first direct conversations between Kiev and Moscow since 2022, a few weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine. On Tuesday, Zelensky asked US President Donald Trump to travel to Türkiye to convince Putin to participate in the negotiations. Trump confirmed that US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, will participate in the talks. Kremlin has not announced if Putin will travel and merely indicate that “the Russian delegation will be present.”
