Brazil is a country of honor at the Audiovisual Festival Marché du Film; Recognition celebrates 200 years of relations with France
The Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, is representing Brazil as a country of honor in the 2025, in Cannes. She arrived in France this 3rd (13.MAI.2025) to lead the Brazilian entourage during the event, which will be held with the 78th Cannes Festival.
Recognition as a country of honor comes at a time of prominence of Brazilian cinema in the global scenario and is part of the celebrations of the 200 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and France. The Brazilian delegation led by the minister will have an agenda until Monday (19.MAI), focusing on promoting national audiovisual.
O Film market It is the largest audiovisual market in the world, held annually in parallel to the Cannes Festival, bringing together producers, distributors and global filmmakers. The 66th edition is held from 13 to 21 May 2025, in the Festivals and Congress Palacein Cannes.
The minister’s official agenda starts on Wednesday (14.MAI), when he will be host of the opening party of Marché Du Film, at Plage Des Palmes, with presentation by singer Lunedji Luna. On Thursday (15.MAI), Margareth will participate in the main conference: “Audiovisual ecosystem and Brazilian institutions”, at 10am.
Brazil will feature 2 booths at the festival. The main, of the Brazilian Cinema Project, with institutional support from the Ministry of Culture, will occupy 96 square meters. The 2nd space, approximately 37 square meters, will be shared between SPCINE and RIOFILME.
The minister’s agenda ends on May 18, when he will honor the world’s debut of the film, “directed by Kleber Mendonça.
“The appointment of Brazil as a country of honor is a historical achievement and crown this great moment lived by the Brazilian audiovisual that does not start, nor ends with the Oscar for ‘I am still here’. Our management understands that the audiovisual sector is a powerful industry, a powerful soft power tool and a fundamental pillar of the creative economy. Therefore the investment we make is historical.”said Margareth Menezes.
In his official X profile, the minister: “We are promoting our audiovisual industry and making new international partnerships. It also has world debut of ‘The Secret Agent’, by Kleber Mendonça ”.
