State speaks of seasonal demand in the United States and high costs as reasons for maintaining fuel price in refineries

It indicated it on the 3rd (13.MAI.2025) that should not reduce, for now, the price of gasoline in refineries. The justification is the pressure on international fuel prices, influenced by the approximation of summer in the northern hemisphere, a period of highest consumption in the United States.

“Unlike diesel, which has a tendency to fall in the international market, gasoline lives an upward moment”, Said the director of logistics, marketing and markets of the state, Claudio Schlosser, in a conference conference on the results of the 1st quarter.

Schlosser stated that this time of year, the United States often increase gasoline stocks because of the start of the summer holiday period, with a rise in the number of car trips.

Gasoline has been sold by Petrobras priced above import parity, but the director said this is not the only factor taken into account. According to him, the company also considers the market instability and the cost of refining, which is still high.

At the opening of the market of this 3rd (13.mai), the liter of Petrobras gasoline was R $ 0.05 above the parity calculated by the (Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers). Read the report (PDF – 724 KB).

The last change in refinery gasoline price was made in July 2024. Diesel underwent 4 adjustments by 2025: an increase in February and three reductions since April, the latest on May 5.

The fall in international oil prices was driven by the intensification of the trade war between the United States and China.
