The end of the universe will occur ahead of expected, according to a new study by Dutch scientists. But it is not necessary to have panic, as it will take an estimate of 10 elevated to 78th power in years – 78 zeros – for this to happen. This is an important revision of the previous 10 forecast for 1,100 power in years, according to a study by the University of Radboud, published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. “The end of the universe will occur long before expected, but fortunately there is still a long time,” said Heino Falke, the main author of the study.
From Radbid set out to calculate when the most “lasting” celestial bodies – the white dwarfs – will be extinguished. The researchers were based on the phenomenon of the evaporation of black holes, or Hawking radiation, named after the famous British physicist Stephen Hawking. In the mid -1970s, this famous scientist proposed the hypothesis that black holes released a radiation that caused their slow dissolution, such as an effervescent aspirin in a glass of water.
Radboud scientists applied this principle to other objects in the universe and estimated that “time of evaporation” depended on their density. Thus, they managed to calculate the theoretical dissolution of the longer body, the white dwarf.
But there is no reason to worry unless a way of leaving the planet is found, Terá will have disappeared long before the end of the universe.
