Lionel Messi has numerous records in Barcelona’s history. The Argentine, for example, is the player with the most titles in the history of the Catalan club with 35 achievements. The story began on May 14, 2005, exactly 20 years ago.

He won the title of the Spanish Championship by drawing with Levante, away from home, for the 36th round. The title came two rounds in advance. Messi did not take the field in that match, but was part of the cast of the achievement.

He had a discreet role in the achievement in the first season as a professional. There were nine games with a goal scored. In La Liga’s dispute, there were seven games and, curiously, seven wins.

Another remarkable moment of Messi that season was precisely the first goal scored by Barça. The Argentine, then shirt 30, received assistance from Ronaldinho Gaúcho and scored a goal for coverage, against Albacete, for the 34th round of the tournament.

Messi is a player with more matches with the shirt of the Catalan club (778) and holds the record of goals for a single team: 672. The Argentine finished his career in Barcelona with 10 Spanish Championship titles, seven King and Super Cup titles, four Champions League, three UEFA supercaps and three worlds.

History Beginning

The Barcelona team was filled with stars such as Ronaldinho Gaucho, Deco, Eto’o, Puyol, Victor Valdés, Iniesta and Xavi. Everyone already dealt and helped Messi, prominence in the grassroots categories, with the transition to the main team.

Barça’s title, at the time led by Dutchman Frank Rijkaard, broke the fast of six seasons without national titles. The title marked Barcelona’s return to title disputes.
