Carlo Ancelotti, 65, will have its main goal in the Brazilian team to win the 2026 World Cup, headquartered by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
His contract with the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) also provides for a 5 million euros bonus (R $ 31.51 million) if he can bring the green and yellow team to his sixth world title.
In addition to the financial bonus, the achievement would give the Italian an unprecedented brand in the history of football. To this day, no foreigner has managed to take a national team to the title of a World Cup.
They are rare even those who managed to reach the decision on the biggest stage of football. Only two names recorded this feat, Austrian Ernst Happel, runner-up with the Netherlands in 1978, and Englishman George Raynor, defeated with Sweden in the 1958 World Cup decision by the Brazilian team.
On the other hand, despite the rare significant results, having a foreigner at the head of national teams is quite common in worldwide. In the last edition, in 2022, at Qatar, they were in 34.7% of the 32 teams, with 11 names, including Spanish Julen Lopetegui, ahead of the hosts.
Of these, only two names reached the quarterfinals: German Thomas Tuchel, with England, and Spanish Roberto Martínez, with the Portuguese team, two examples that this type of option is well accepted in Europe.
In Brazil, for a long time, this was treated like a taboo. Ancelotti will only be the fourth foreign to command the Brazilian team and its predecessors were far from building a great history.
All had very brief tickets. The list composes Uruguayan Ramón Platero, Portuguese Joreca and Argentine Filpo Nuñez. The trio totals only seven matches in charge of Brazil, with five wins, a draw and a defeat.
In Cups, the possibility has always been rejected. In recent years, however, after successive failures in the world, fans rejection has decreased.
At the end of the last edition of the World Cup, in December 2022, Datafolha survey showed that 41% of Brazilians were in favor of hiring a foreign technician. The number was still less than the 48% that were opposed, but the survey pointed to a drop in rejection.
Before the World Cup, there was 30% in favor and 54% against. The failure of the national team under the command of gaucho Tite, with defeat to Croatia in the quarterfinals, changed his humor and opened the door a little more after, after a long negotiation, an Italian arrived.
In addition to negotiating with Real Madrid coach, the CBF had two other foreigners as favorites to take office, both Portuguese, Jorge Jesus, currently without a club after leaving Al-Hilal, and Abel Ferreira, from Palmeiras.
Interestingly, no Portuguese coach has ever won a World Cup. Brazil, in turn, has five world champions: Vicente Feola (1958), Aymoré Moreira (1962), Zagallo (1970), Carlos Alberto Parreira (1994) and Luiz Felipe Scolari (2002).
School of which the new coach of Brazil belongs, Italy has three technicians with World Cup titles. The most recent was Marcello Lippi, winner of the 2006 edition. Before him, Enzo Bearzot led the country to the 1982 conquest. Vittorino Pozzo, champion in 1934 and 1938, is still the only two -time champion commander.
