Uber and IFood announced on Wednesday (14) a strategic partnership in Brazil. The collaboration, which will go into operation in the second semester, will allow the introduction of mobility tabs in the iFood application and delivery tabs in the Uber application.

As a result of the combination, IFOOD users will be able to request Uber races directly from the IFood application, while Uber users will have access to food delivery services, markets, pharmacies and iFood convenience within the Uber application.

According to companies, collaboration aims to improve the user experience and also allow both access to each other’s customer base, expanding their reach in the Brazilian market.

The integration of services will begin to be made available in selected cities in the second half of the year, according to the two companies.

“Today, only about half of users use both platforms recurrently,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s chief executive in a press release.

Founded in 2010, Uber completed more than 61 billion trips globally and about 11 billion in Brazil, where it arrived in 2014. In the country, the company has approximately 30 million active users and a network of more than 1.4 million drivers and registered delivery.

Meanwhile, iFood processes more than 120 million orders per month. The company operates in approximately 1,500 cities in Brazil and has partnership with over 400,000 establishments, including restaurants, markets, pharmacies and other businesses. The company operates with a network of about 360,000 registered deliveryrs on its platform.

The food delivery market has become increasingly competitive in Brazil. Three years ago, amid IFood dominance, Uber announced that it was discontinuing Uber Eats, its online food order service in Brazil, to prioritize fundamental segments such as locomotion.

While Uber and IFood seek to strengthen their positions in the country, the Chinese platform Meituan announces an investment of about $ 5 billion (US $ 890 million) to enter the local market, according to Apexbrasil, the agency Promotion of ExpoTations and Investments of the Federal Government, a movement that was well received by investors of the Asian company.
