A Chilean fan was arrested on Wednesday (14) in Maracanã on suspicion of making racist gestures during the match between Fluminense and Unión Española, for the South American Cup.
The arrest in the act was converted to preventive, with no deadline to close, by the Special Court of the fan. The Chilean was identified as Baltazar Martin Garcês Lopez. THE Sheet failed to contact your defense.
According to the prosecutor, private security guards called the Military Police by identifying that the fan made gestures imitating a monkey towards Brazilians.
“After verifying the images generated at the Maracanã Command and Control Center by the prosecutors present to the stadium, the BEP agents led Baltazar to a custody hearing in the Special Court of the fan who, at the request of the prosecutor on duty, converted the arrest in the act of preventive accused,” said the prosecutor.
The arrest was the first after the launch of the MP-RJ campaign “We were vigilant”, prevention and repression of racism during the South American Cup matches and Libertadores in Rio de Janeiro.
The initiative was supported by the MP-RJ Digital Evidence and Technology Division (Dedit/Ci2), whose experts made technical visits to stadiums to evaluate the camera system and suggest improvements for the monitoring and recognition of the authors. The technical team will also be present at the stadiums to capture audio, videos and identification of chants, gestures and racist offenses.
“The idea of the campaign is to make everyone feel supported and empowered to act in cases of racism and other infractions. When everyone perceives this movement, with multiple actors involved and a sum of effort, we have a great mobilization for the practice of racism to be effectively repressed from our sports squares,” said Márcio Almeida, coordinator of the Sports Sports and Defense Group.
