This weekend, from Friday (16) to Sunday (18), Curitiba will receive the first stage of the World Cup circle circle circuit held in a Latin American country. The competition, organized by the International Sports Climbing Federation and the Brazilian Sports Climbing Confederation, will bring together 103 athletes from 23 countries, including 11 Olympic athletes and British Toby Roberts, a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games, as well as national champions Rodrigo Hanada and Anja Köhler.

In a separate initiative, but perfectly integrated with sport, the event will feature a colorful news: while athletes strive for the official dispute, another more modest wall will be open to the public that wants to know a little more about the sport. This wall, developed within the climbing project is Art, was born of the collaboration between the artist André Crespo, Bolt Holds, who gave life to modeled graves such as animals and plants of Brazilian fauna, made and painted by hand, and the factory of shapes, which made the whole.

Glasses, discomfort that support climbers in indoor walls, were integrated into the work destiny, by Crespo, which the artist defines as “metaphor of a party to represent human interaction with the environment.”

“Art and sport go hand in hand,” defines curly. “The athletic movement is pure expression, the body is the most perfect work of art.

Climber André Braga, who participated in HBO’s reality show, who has a partnership with the Confederation for both climbing walls and use products in competitions, is ahead of the arts factory and spoke to the blog amid the rush of the latest preparations.

“For this event, we rushed into an emergency work for the World Cup after a fire that had been on site three weeks ago,” says Braga, known as Deco in the world of climbing. “But we also gained the opportunity to develop this wall for the public, which was the perfect opportunity to take the climbing project is paper art,” he adds.

He says that during the three days of competitions, the audience will be invited to interact with the installation, playing and experiencing the forms and textures of the grabs, and “becoming a living part of the work.” Children’s workshops of modeling and grip painting will also be offered. For visually impaired people, the project offers features such as braille signs and tactile experiences, so that people can “see” art with their hands – and at the end of the event, the wall will be donated to the Paraná Blind Institute (IPC).

“It is a historic moment for the Brazilian and South American climb,” defines Deco. “As an athlete and fan of the sport, it is a dream to be able to participate in an event of this magnitude, especially in my city, in Brazil. It is a huge proof of how much the climb has grown, and the opportunity to connect the country to the international scene, is to bring Brazilian and South American sponsors athletes, and a future with more opportunities to pursue in this career and professionalize,” he says. “I, as an athlete, never had this opportunity, so seeing that the new generation of athletes in Brazil will have all this future to explore is fantastic,” he concludes.
