How to choose good strawberries?

If you want to make the most of the strawberry season, you must be careful when shopping. We are easy to get carried away by too much enthusiasm from the arrival of fresh fruit, thanks to which we overlook the details that distinguish good strawberries. The best specimens have a uniform, intense red color. Resist the purchase of fruits with green or white tips. They are not completely mature and this process is hampered when harvesting. The tastiest strawberries are characterized by a sweet aroma. If you do not feel this fragrance, the fruits were probably harvested too early. Avoid soft, wrinkled pieces with visible damage. Pay attention to the stem. Green, fresh leaves testify to young and fresh fruits.

When to wash strawberries? Check that they are not moldy

Stocks on the market or in the vegetable store are finished. It is time to clarify one of the most important points. Strawberries should be washed immediately before consumption. If you wash them immediately after returning from the purchase and leave them wet on the kitchen or in the refrigerator, you will support the rapid growth of mold. Remove the stems only after washing and drying the fruits. They are a natural protection against excessive suction of water with strawberries. They keep them firm and tasty.

How to wash strawberries? Carefully place them in a strainer and rinse under the flow of running water at room temperature. Do not soak the fruit for a long time – it loses its taste and absorbs liquid like a sponge. After washing, place them on a paper towel and gently dry them while removing excess water.

What can be done to keep the strawberries fresh longer?

A short bath of strawberries in water with vinegar (may be apple cider vinegar) gets rid of pesticide strawberries and protects them from mold. If it is done cleverly, the seasonal delicacy will remain tasty and firm. Mix vinegar and water in a ratio of 1: 3. Soak the strawberries in the decoction for 5 minutes and then dry them with a paper towel.

How to store strawberries?

Valuable properties and excellent taste. Strawberries have many advantages, but unfortunately they are not long -lasting fruit. When buying strawberries, it is worthwhile to think and buy enough to consume them regularly. This is all the more so because rising temperatures prevent long -term storage of strawberries on the kitchen.

Fresh strawberries are recommended to be stored in a refrigerator at 2-4 ºC. It is best to use flat containers, plates or trays lined with a paper towel. Strawberries should be placed side by side to form one layer. They should not lie on each other as they are more easily damaged and quickly depreciated. Do not close the container hermetically – strawberries like to ventilate. Do not store them in plastic bags at all.

Another tip: Remove the strawberries from the refrigerator 30 minutes before you plan to taste them. Then they relax their full taste and aroma.

Mix with water and pour the strawberries. You will collect full baskets of large and tasty fruits
