Wellington-An appearance in the New Zealand Parliament caused a stir in November last year-and now probably for consequences: Three Māori MPs had listed a ceremonial dance of the indigenous Māori-during the reading of a controversial law last year. MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke from the Te Pāti Māori faction tore down the draft law, which would have reinterpreted an 184-year-old contract between the British and the indigenous Māori. They feared restricted rights for the indigenous population. The appearance could now lead to suspending politicians.
