The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Thursday that India has offered them a commercial agreement in which they propose “zero tariffs.” Thus, New Delhi seeks to close a commercial agreement with the United States within the 90 -day break announced by Trump.
Before the pause, Trump had imposed on India tariffs of 26%. The country is the main commercial partner of India, with a bilateral trade that reached 129 billion dollars in 2024. Currently, the commercial balance favors India, which has a surplus of 45.7 billion dollars with the United States.
In a meeting with executives in Doha, the US President has detailed that “it is very difficult to sell in India, and they are offering us an agreement in which they are basically willing not to literally charge any tariff.”
