Ukraine “coordinates positions” with the US before meeting with Russian envoys
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Andri Sibiga, has met with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, hours before the opening of direct contacts between Moscow and kyiv scheduled for this Thursday in Turkey.
“I have met with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and with Senator Lindsey Graham to convey the idea of the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, about the peace efforts and coordinate positions during this week of critical importance,” says Sibiga in a statement issued shortly after the last midnight.
The head of the Ukraine diplomacy adds that he also spoke with Rubio of “the logic of the next steps” in the peace process, and insists that Russia must understand that he will pay a price if he avoids committing himself to the efforts to end the war.
The meeting between both politicians occurred in the Turkish city of Antalia, within the framework of an informal meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers, held on Wednesday.
Russia and Ukraine must begin on Thursday in Türkiye the direct contacts to end the war. The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, has traveled to Turkey after challenging the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, who seems that he will not honor the invitation and has sent Istanbul to a technical profile delegation.
On the part of the US they are expected to be in Türkiye, in addition to Rubio, the two special representatives of President Donald Trump for the war, Keith Kellogg and Steve Witkoff. (EFE)
