The governor of Goiás and presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), said he will grant the amnesty to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and those involved in the scammer acts of 8 January 2023, if he is elected president in 2026. The statement during an interview with GloboNews on Wednesday, 14.
The head of the Goian executive is in New York to participate in Brazil Week panels.
“Ronaldo Caiado, President of the Republic: I am amstinating and starting a new story in Brazil,” said the governor, before reiterating: “Caiado goes, reaching the presidency of the Republic and, at my moment, I will resolve this subject, amnesty this whole situation. And we will discuss the problem of growth and pacification of the country.”

The amnesty’s agenda is defended by pockets, which has been organizing various demonstrations in defense of the convicts in the Supreme Court for undemocratic acts that culminated in the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the three powers in Brasilia.
Allies also speak of a “complete amnesty,” including the former president, the military and the politicians involved in the plot.
In the National Congress, with the text of the PL of Amnesty waged by the mayor, Hugo Motta, there is a project in preparation for attenuation of the penalties of prisoners by the acts.

Caiado stressed that he was the first governor to defend the agenda in February 2024. For him, this debate “already tired” and the country comes out “of this crisis”.
Ronaldo Caiado launched his pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic in early April. Since then, he has appailed edges with former President Jair Bolsonaro and has been participating in amnesty acts performed by the pockets. He tries to make support of his candidacy, amid a dispute within União Brasil.
