Forget the river marathon, its growing spectacularization, all the postcards and the endless back and forth by the landfill; Leave aside the Winter Mara de São Paulo and its most perfect translation, the Esia do Elvis singing in São João; Ignore the speed of Porto Alegre, the moisture of Manaus, the two headlights of Salvador, the perrengues of Curitiba. Uberlândia is coming.
There is no tourist attraction over the 42.2km of the triangle capital’s proof. On the contrary, the round trip of the last 20 kilometers, with Chicana in the Mansions neighborhood of the airport, constitutes true scenic nightmare. But this does not take from the event, which happens this Sunday (18), with preliminaries already the day before, something that is only his, that no other race has: the Uberlandian Nilson Lima as a host.
Nilsão is the epitome of the Brazilian Amateur Race. Around him, other Brazilians who found themselves in the marathon are added. That have already ran it to tens or hundreds. And they make a point of going to Uberlandia less to win another 42km than to keep a tradition alive.
That’s why Mara de Uberlândia is not exactly a race. Religious ceremony defines it more accurately. The proof is to the amateur as Sacsayhuamán to the Incas; like the Azteca stadium for the nostalgic of football. It is the highest and sublime point of the year for some crazy people who do not stole to run (and spend) in Boston, New York, Paris, Bento Gonçalves, Tokyo, Berlin, Durban, Brasilia, London, Napier, Kangerlussuaq.
It is fair, therefore, that the Mara de Uberlândia bears the name of the goat, tribute in life to which, in the country, proportionally, only ACM did all of all power in the good land.
