Interventor of the Brazilian Football Confederation (), Fernando José Sarney announced this Friday (16) the date of the new election of the entity. One day after being placed in office, he defined that the claim will be held on the 25th of this month, the eve of the coach’s work at the head of the Brazilian team. The election will define the successor of, deprived of the CBF command on Thursday by decision of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice (TJ-RJ), designated by the Supreme Court () to investigate a possible fraud in the agreement that kept the leader in power. An expert indicated that the signature of former vice-president Colonel Nunes, one of the signatories, would be false. The decision is appealed. In his order, Judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zéfiro defined Fernando José Sarney, vice president of the CBF, as an intervener and defined that he calls an election for CBF directive positions “as soon as possible”.
Following these determinations, Sarney announced that the call for the electoral general meeting will be published in newspapers on Saturday. The election will decide who will be the new president of the entity and will also define eight vice-presidents, three effective members and three alternate members of the Fiscal Council, for the exercise of the 2025/2029 quadrennium mandates. “Observing the electoral rules and procedures provided for in the CBF Statute, the process will be conducted in a transparent, democratic and participatory way,” said the intervener of the entity that rules world football.
According to the schedule informed by Sarney, the deadline for registration of the plate will be opened on the 18th, Sunday, and will be closed on the 20th. And on the 25th, the General Electoral Assembly will take place for the claim. “I also inform that the conduct of the electoral process will be under the responsibility of an apart and independent electoral commission, as provided for in Article 22, VI, of Law No. 9,615/98,” Sarney said in a statement. It will be the second election for CBF presidency in less than two months. In March, Ednaldo obtained a striking victory to stay in office, with all the votes of the federations and clubs of the Brazilian Championship series A and B. He would start the new term in 2026. However, he is now appealing to the STF to try to reverse Thursday’s court decision.

The election, therefore, will take place on the eve of Ancelotti’s first day of work at the head of the national team.
