Lula gathers ministers amid CPI pressure from the INSS – 16/05/2025 – Brasilia Today

The President () brought together some of his ministers on Friday (16) at a time when the National Congress tries to establish a CPI of the (National Institute of Social Security), to investigate the illegal discounts in retirement and pensions.

The ministers (institutional relations), Rui Costa (Casa Civil), Wolney Queiroz () and Sidônio Palmeira (Secom), as well as Senate government leader Jaques Wagner (PT-BA) participate in a meeting with the president at the Dawn Palace.

The presence of Wolney and Wagner, however, was not informed in the president’s official agenda.

The meeting takes place days after the opposition filed on Monday (12), one, made up of federal deputies and senators, to investigate the case.

The request was submitted with the signature of 36 senators and 223 federal deputies – number higher than the minimum required of 27 and 171, respectively.

Despite the great adhesion, the installation of the committee still depends on the president of, (-AP).

To date, the government is trying to avoid a CPI or CPMI on the scandal with the argument that there are already advanced investigations underway in the Federal Police and the CGU (Comptroller General of the Union), as well as a (Attorney General of the Union) for the blockade of associations.

In reaction to the scandal, President Lula has already exchanged the president of the INSS and the Minister of Social Security, bodies directly linked to the theme. They assumed the posts, respectively, Gilberto Waller, and Wolney Queiroz.
