Republican leader, from SP, met with Whale Rossi (MDB-SP) on May 6; try to resolve regional disputes to advance union
The president of Republicans, federal deputy (SP), told the Poder360 who will meet again with the president of the MDB (Brazilian Democratic Movement), Deputy (SP), “shortly”. They discuss a possible federation between the acronyms.
The chiefs already, in Congress, to address the theme. Place, day and time of the new meeting will still be defined. Marcos Pereira and Baleia Rossi try to resolve disputes involving regional legendary leaders to advance in negotiations.
In Bahia, for example, parties are part of opposite sides of local politics. Emedebistas make up the Government base (PT), while Republicans integrate the opposition of the Bahian executive.
The federation between subtitles can place Republicans and MDB as one of the most expressive forces of national policy.
If the agreement is realized, they would be in number of congressmen behind only the PL and the Progressive Union Federation, composed by União Brasil and the Progressives.
The new federation would have the following number of positions:
- governors – 5 (2 of the MDB and, from Republicans, 3);
- senators – 15 (11 of the MDB and, from Republicans, 4);
- federal deputies – 87 (43 of the MDB and, from Republicans, 44);
- mayor – 1304 (864 of the MDB and, from Republicans, 440).
In addition to the question of the influence of parties, the Union would serve to increase public resources for subtitles campaign, increasing the chances of its politicians to be successful in opponents.
Federations role
Federations were created by Law No. 14,208 of 2021. It is a more flexible parties union model than a merger or incorporation. Still, it brings rigid rules than the old proportional coalitions, in which subtitles without any political-ideological affinity were uniquely united for elections, without any later commitment.
With the Federation, parties need to stay together for the next 4 years. The subtitles preserve their identity, their affiliates and their financial autonomy. But in addition to having to act together in the legislatures, they cannot dispute majority positions in elections, such as voting for president, governor or mayor.
This is one of the points that arouse internal resistance. While the national leaders of Republicans and MDB aim at the turbocated party and electoral funds and the power that the Federation will have in Congress, the regional legendary leaders complain why, locally, vying for majority vacancies.
