Portugal debuted on the Michelin Key Hotel List. Meet here the full list of the winners and the five criteria they had to meet.
But the distinctions are not here. In April last year, the Michelin Guide presented a new distinction – – Which recognizes the best hotels in the world. As with restaurants, hotels can receive more than one key.
One key represents a very special stay, two keys an exceptional stay and three keys, an extraordinary stay.
This year was the first time Portugal joined the list of the best hotels. In total, they were distinguished 55 hotel establishments: Two hotels with three keys, 13 with two keys and 40 with a key.
The two distinguished hotels with three keys are the Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spain Porches, and the Penha Long Resort in Sintra.
What does it take to be distinguished with the Michelin key?
The Michelin Guide selection team is based on Five universal criterion To distinguish the hotels, they are:
- A destination itself: the hotel contributes to the local experience;
- Excellent architecture and interior design;
- Quality and coherence of service, comfort and maintenance;
- Individuality, personality and authenticity;
- Ability to provide extraordinary experience at a fair price.
According to the Michelin guide, hotels distinguished with the key are “the best of the best in all categories.”
