Strike in civil service: sectors of education, health and tax authorities can be affected

The union that called the strike provides for a “mass adherence” and denounces boycott attempts by employers.

Public Administration workers and the services of the Institute of Registrations and Notaries (IRN) and the Tax Authority may be some of the most affected sectors, according to the president of STTS.

Due to the stoppage impacts on public services in the education, health, tax authority and the Institute of Registry and Notary (IRN) are expected.

The president of the National Union of Services and Entities with public purposes (STTS), which indicated to Lusa that a “mass adherence” is expected.

“The strike is national, for all workers, regardless of the bond and career,” recalled Mário Rui, noting that in education, for example, operating assistants, auxiliary technicians, technical assistants and teachers are covered, while in health they will adhere to professionals such as doctors, nurses, health auxiliary technicians and operational assistants.

The union leader stressed that a greater adhesion is expected than the one in February, in the last strike, pointing out that there is already a greater interest from the workers, who ask questions and have access to more information.

Strike “will be a cry of resistance against any form of labor repression”

This although they existed “attempts to boycott by various employers,” the union reported in a statement, not distributing the pre-advisory strike to workers and the restriction of dissemination in the workplaces.

In addition, “several unions came public to say that the May 16 strike was exclusive to STT’s partners, inducing workers to error and creating an environment of chaos and misinformation,” says the union.

Despite these situations, the union ensures that “public administration workers will not be silent” and that the strike “will be a cry of resistance against any form of work repression.”

The STTs called this strike due to the degradation of working conditions and lack of appreciation.

In a statement, the trade union structure said that public administration workers are “fed up with low wages, devaluation of careers, empty promises and management that does not recognize the importance of public services to society.”
