There is a new way of shopping at Pingo Doce and will not waste time on queues

For many Portuguese, going shopping is synonymous with investing time in travel and even within the supermarket itself, not forgetting the money that you need to spend on fuel if you have to use your vehicle. However, Pingo Doce has adopted a new method that will allow you to shop without wasting time in queues.

Jerónimo Martins again bets on e -commerce, with the launch of Pingo Doce Online, which was available on May 14. The new online store marks the brand’s direct return to the digital channel, almost ten years after the first experience in the sector. Lisbon and Porto are the first zones covered by the service, which will be extended in a phase to other regions of the country.

End of partnership with Mercadão

In 2003, Pingo Doce ended its first online supermarket, and in the last seven years it resorted to a partnership with Mercadão to maintain digital presence. Through this platform, owned by Glovo, the products were sold and delivered at home. With the new online store, contact with customers becomes straightforward on a platform managed by jail itself.

Francisco Soure, director of Innovation and Digital of Pingo Doce, explained that the decision to end the partnership with Mercadão arises from the need to offer a complete online experience, controlled internally. “It was essential to have its own channel, in which we have the total autonomy to shape and manage how we relate to our customers,” said the official cited by.

Fresh Products and Promotions Available

The new site will provide fresh products, promotions and the advantages of the loyalty program “My Pingo Doce”. The change will be gradual, starting with the end of the partnership with Mercadão and the start of the new service in Lisbon and Porto. The goal is to ensure a careful transition, focusing on the quality of the customer experience.

During the first two weeks, the service will cover most of the territory of the two main metropolitan areas. Subsequently, an expansion will be made based on local demand, always with the concern of maintaining quality standards defined by the company. Francisco Soure anticipates that in early summer there will be coverage in the main urban areas and tourist destinations, for home deliveries.

We recommend:

Click & Collect and national coverage

At the same time, a national service of Click & Collectallowing customers to shop online and raise products in a Pingo Doce store. The extension of the service to Madeira and the Azores is also under study, and it is the intention of the company to make it possible during the year 2025.

The new online store starts with a selected set of products, similar to that available in the brand’s largest physical stores. The idea is to adjust the offer according to the needs of customers and the specificities of each region. No exact numbers have been advanced regarding the total references available.

Deliveries assured by new partner

The logistics partner who will ensure deliveries in this new phase has not been revealed, but Francisco Soure ensures that there is a team of dedicated shopping assistants, with specific training in fresh products and customer service.

The brand intends to guarantee deliveries on the day, whenever possible, with a minimum time of three hours after the order. Additionally, a model of hours with hours of only one hour is being worked for for greater convenience of users.

New planned payment options

Available payment methods include credit card, debit and MBway. In the near future, the company expects to widen the options to Apple Pay and Google Pay, responding to the growing demand for digital and fast solutions at the time of payment.

With this step, Pingo Doce reinforces its digital presence and adapts to the new demands of consumers. The decision to assume its own channel reflects a strategy of greater control over the service and the experience offered.

Continuation of collaboration with Glovo

Despite ending the partnership with Mercadão, Glovo will continue to collaborate with Jerónimo Martins through the Quick Commerce service, aimed at rapid urgent purchases.

Pingo Doce’s innovation and digital director concludes that direct entry into e -commerce marks a new phase for Pingo Doce, where it will be possible to “respond better to the expectations of our customers, with a service thought and managed by us from start to finish”.
