Legislative assemblies throughout the country move with the possibility of being approved from the election of 2026.
The in Amazonas (6), Ceará (1), Goiás (1), Minas Gerais (1), Mato Grosso (6), Pará (4), Paraná (1), Rio Grande do Norte (6) and Santa Catarina (4) from 2026.
At least two state parliaments are already planning the increase.
In Amazonas, the President of the Assembly, defends the proposal since the disclosure of the last census, in 2023 – the state population went from 3,483,985 in 2010 to 3,941,175.
One of the deputy’s arguments is that the number of chairs in Aleam, 24 in total, has not changed since 1993. “The more representatives here in this house, the more we will have debates with people who have different ideas,” said city, in a text published by the Assembly itself. Sought by the panel, he did not answer.
City did not say the cost for Amazonas of the six new deputies, but argues that the house has its balanced accounts and structure to receive them.
At the Goiás Assembly (Alego), President Bruno Peixoto (Union) is in favor of the new seat, and the house estimates spending at least R $ 913,000 per year with another deputy.
Two state assemblies – from Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina – said they waited for the proposal to be processed in Congress and, for now, did not want to speak up.
Already the president of the Assembly of Paraná, Alexandre Curi (PSD), is contrary to the expansion. His colleague Max Russi (PSB), president of the Mato Grosso Assembly, says he does not see the need for six new deputies. However, he says that “it will guarantee the necessary structure to comply with the law.”
The panel was unable to contact the Presidencies of the Ceará, Pará and Rio Grande do Norte Assemblies.
