The suspended the importation of poultry products in Brazil, the country’s Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development said in a statement. The Mexican government claims that the measure was taken to “protect the local poultry industry” and that it is a preventive suspension. The suspension is valid for the importation of meat from fertile eggs and living birds, among other poultry products in Brazil.

The Mexican government also points out that the decision was made to avoid risks to animal health in national poultry production. “Therefore, poultry meat, fertile eggs, eggs free of specific pathogens (SPF), chickens of up to three days of age, guts for human consumption and poultry raw materials for the production of pet foods will not be able to enter. Speaker, ornamental and prey birds will not be able to enter the country,” said the secretary in the document.
The suspension by Mexico was already expected by the Brazilian government.
