Fernando Sarney was appointed intervener by the court after Ednaldo Rodrigues was removed from office; The entity’s leader resorted to the Supreme Court

The intervener and interim president of CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), Fernando Sarney, marked the elections for the new board of the entity to May 25. The decision was after the president of the post by the TJ-RJ (Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice) on Thursday (16.MAI.2025).

In addition to a new president, 8 vice presidents, 3 effective members and 3 alternate members of the Fiscal Council will be chosen. Read the call (PDF – 409 KB).

This is the calendar of the electoral process:

  • 17. Mai: Publication of the 1st Notice and the Electoral Regulation;
  • 18.Mai-20.Mai: plate registration deadline;
  • 25. Electoral General Assembly.

After the call, Ednaldo Rodrigues filed a request at the Supreme Court (STF) to suspend the electoral process.

In the request, the leader states that the judgment of the ADI (direct action of unconstitutionality) that will analyze the validity of the election that kept it in charge will be decided on May 28 – or 3 days after the election.

The leader claims that if the Court recognizes the veracity of the agreement, the effects of the electoral call will be canceled and the board elected in 2022 will return to the command of the Confederation. Which, for him, can threaten the institutional stability of Brazilian football.
